Mixed media art by Minna Heikkilä
I am an artist on a nomadic journey through the landscape of visuality. I leave behind traces of the path I travelled; unique and one-of-a-kind wearable and decorative creations, made with whole lot of time and passion for detail. The main techniques I use are acrylic pouring, polymer clay sculpting, macramé knotting and resin casting. Sustainability is for me of utmost importance and research and experimenting are the keys to achieving my goal.
"If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing well. If it is worth having, it is worth waiting for. If it is worth attaining, it is worth fighting for. If it is worth experiencing, it is worth putting aside time for." Oscar Wilde

A BIT OF MAGICAL DUST IN EVERY DAY
I have been creating as long as I can remember. First, together with my beloved mamma, my grandmother, who was an oil painter. Later, sketching on all available surfaces, that I got my hands on. I think in visual forms rather than sounds or how something feels. I have always loved exploring art and have also studied it in several forms, ending up with university diplomas in both fashion and lighting design.
Nowadays I work in theatre and create on my free time. Creating art is my escape to a magical world. A world where hours just fly away and everything shines in a special way. Everything has a just little bit of magical dust and shimmer in it. I try to bring some of this magic to you in my creations. It brings great joy to be able turn everyday objects into something beautiful. It is very important to me to find ways give a new life to discarded or unnoticed objects, breathe them back to life, to recycle and upcycle things. Reduce the waste. I do my art on old discarded LPs, CDs, porcelain tiles, upcycle old leather jackets into jewelry and collect pebbles to pour on by the river.
Sustainability and durability is essential to me. To ensure the maximum durability, I use only professional grade components, if I cannot produce them myself. I try to avoid using metal components, so that I can keep my designs as hypoallergenic as possible. I want to make sure, that if you choose to adopt one of my creations, it will accompany you for a long time.
A PROCESS FULL
OF LOVE
Each and every item of my handmade jewelry is created with lot of attention to detail, choice of materials and finish to ensure maximum durability and comfortability. Each part used is chosen especially for said piece and none of them are factory made. In average one piece takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to finish and contains 5 to 6 meters of macramé thread and up to 700 individual knots.
Here you can see the creation of one bracelets from start to finish.
